We would like to welcome Tyler Donnelly to our team. Tyler has had experience working in an optical practice whilst studying for a degree in music production. He will be carrying out OCT scans whilst also training to be a dispenser. Tyler lives locally with his girlfriend and young son. He is a keen footballer and club DJ in his spare time.
We were delighted to be a corporate sponsor of the ‘Just Drop In’ team on their recent Kilimanjaro expedition. All funds raised go towards supporting young people in Macclesfield in finding their feet. Well done to all the team on an amazing achievement!
Booth & Bruce eyewear was born in the 1990’s out of a desire to see an English brand deliver funky, fashionable frames to the more forward thinking eyewear connoisseur.
A collaboration of urban chic, and daring design, mixed with colour schemes to push boundaries, Booth & Bruce will continue to serve eyewear realness on a global scale.
Today, by the constant evolution of our designs, Booth & Bruce continues to provide modern, stylish, and ultimately funky frames, to the modern, stylish and funky wearer!
Reflecting on 2018!
March was a busy month for Sarah on her epic 3-week adventure travelling alone with a backpack full of donated glasses and refraction equipment to Rukumkot in Western Nepal to visit her daughter and run a refraction clinic. She is pictured with the medical staff she met at the Rapti Eye Hospital who, at our request, sent a mobile surgical team to the village and carried out around 70 cataract operations in 2 days! A huge thanks to all our patients who donated their old glasses many of which are being worn today in Rukumkot!
Thank you so much to all our friends and patients and Macclesfield folk who brought in their old glasses for our appeal last week. We have cleaned, sorted, labelled and filed 150 pairs which are now boxed and ready to go to Nepal with Sarah this weekend.
Sarah is visiting her daughter in a remote town in Western Nepal which has very limited access to eyecare, it is an 8 hour round trip on mountain roads to the nearest clinic most of the 4000 people who live there have never had an eye test. The clinic staff are travelling to Rukumkot and along with Sarah and the support of the Project Trust girls will run a screening camp providing free glasses from the donations where possible and ordering more specific new glasses for individuals where needed. We hope to fund this part by recycling some of the best frames and some sunglasses which we have been donated. Each frame bought at £35 will provide 4 pairs of glasses in Nepal. We are also screening for cataracts as a surgical team from an eye hospital in the south will also be visiting at the end of the month. More exciting news and pictures to come!
Bronwyn Lawrence has dispensed and fitted thousands of Macclesfield folk with their glasses over a career spanning four decades. Her passion for the detail of beautiful frames, providing a highly professional dispensing service and her skill of fitting glasses perfectly to sometimes quite asymmetric faces has fueled us all with enthusiasm over the last 7 years.
She started as an Optical Advisor in the 1980s then went on to qualify as a Dispensing Optician in 1994 and worked for many years as the Practice Manager at Dollond & Aitchison on Mill St in Macclesfield. She joined us in 2010 when Sarah took over the long established Barker-Bramley Opticians at 103 Park Lane. She has mentored and been a fantastic joint supervisor to Naomi Farr throughout her rigorous 3 year training program to become a Dispensing Optician. Bronwyn retired in the summer but has been back in to help us out and cover holidays over the last few months. Our wonderful little practice has benefited greatly from Bronwyn’s years of experience and the pride and joy she has shown every single day in her job! We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best in her future retirement.
